Insolvency and misconduct of issuers of corporate bonds in the Czech Republic in the period 2013 to 2023
The basic findings resulting from the analysis of bonds in the Czech Republic issued in the period from 1/1/2013 to 31/12/2023 are as follows: Since 2012, when the Czech National Bank together with the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic relaxed the conditions for issuing bonds, the capital market in The Czech Republic saw a large boom in issued corporate bonds. The most significant increase can be observed in so-called sub-limit bonds of up to 1 million euros. In 2023, companies issued bonds in the aggregate amount of CZK 96.2 billion (of which CZK 88.1 billion were over-limit and CZK 8.1 billion under-limit issues), i.e. the most since the beginning of the monitored period (in 2013). In 2023, 1,019 issues of corporate bonds were issued, of which 511 were above the limit and 508 were below the limit. The sharp increase in the number of issues, which continued until 2022 (in which a total of 1,009 issues were issued), thus stopped in 2023.
